(But see 'Team News', 'Team Documents', 'Fixtures & Results' and 'Photo gallery' for up to date news & information.)
Until I get time to do this properly, here's a quick summary of our team:
OVERVIEW
--------
11 players (though 10 at present) currently age 7 to 8 called 'Culcheth U8 C Div 5' that train once a week and participate in the Warrington Junior Football League U8s Division 5 in season 2008/09.
Unlike last season, all 11 players are league registered, so we no longer have any training-only players.
AGE
---
Under 8s, that means under the age of 8 on 31/Aug/2008, or put another way Y3 for school year 2008/09.
ELIGIBILITY
-----------
Club and team membership is open to anyone, only criteria is age - must be in Y3 at school. No discrimination on gender, ability, race, health, etc. Everyone is welcome.
CAPACITY
--------
No hard and fast limit, but we consider our ideal capacity to be 12. This limit reflects our practical capacity given our coaching and facilities resource.
MANAGER
-------
Andy - FA Level 1 coach, CRB Checked, Child Protection & Emergency First Aid certificates. Will be Level 2 qualified by Jan 2009.
COACHES
-------
Andy - also coaches.
Paul & Phil - great coaches who have been with the team since the start of last season (2007/08).
Therefore our ratio of 3 coaches to 11 players is very good and enables us to provide a better level of ciaching than was possible last season.
TRAINING
--------
We train once a week in Culcheth.
MATCHES
-------
Play matches in the Warrington Junior Football League U8s Div 5 in 2008/09. Matches are played on Saturdays. Our season runs from 13/Sep/2008 to appx Mar/2009 - we'll then play friendlies each week from the end of the league season up to the end of May/2009.
We use friendlies to fill gaps when matches are cancelled or on weeks when we have no league fixture.
FAIRNESS POLICY
We are proud to operate a completely fair substitutions and match rota system, with abolutely no ability discrimination, something that is a perennial issue with many other teams. We fully support the spirit of the FA & League's Non-Competetive Policy for U7s & U8s.
DEVELOPMENT POLICY
Players are here to develop both their character and football skills, and our objective is to improve every player, regardless of their initial ability - we don't cherry pick the best players, and are happy to take anyone and give them a fair and equal opportunity to reach their maximum potential.
MATCH POLICY
------------
We don't play to win - or at least that's a low priority. Top priorities are fun, fairness, skills development, and character building. We treat the league games like any other practice match and use it as an opportunity to do just that. We don't sacrifice fairness & development for the sake of chasing results.
HISTORY
-------
The team formed in September 2007 as the U7 Blues (B team) and played in the Warrington Junior League Div 3 in season 2007/08.
At that time we had 11 league registered players, and appx 12 training-only players.
Trying to manage over 20 players as s single team proved very challenging and wasn't ideal, and so at the end of the season in May 2008 we permanently split into 2 teams and have gone our seperate ways:
- U8s B Div 4 2008/09
- U8s C Div 5 2008/09 (my team)
Appx 7 of the league players and 3 of the trainig only players from last season's team joined the U8s B, with the rest remaining in my team to form the U8s C. The U8s B team are managed and coached by 2 of the dads who have stepped forward to run the team.
We wish the U8s B team all the best as they embark on their forthcoming league campagns as a new team.
Meanwhile my U8s C team have retained 3 of last season's league players, 7 of last season's training-only players, and one very welcome new comer. We have also retained myself as manager and Paul & Phil as coaches from last season.
THE FUTURE
----------
Well at this stage it is looking rosier than ever - we have a settled team, a great bunch of players & parents, 3 coaches including myself so a great ratio there, and a good overall team spirit.
